We didn’t have one line of code written yet. Then we attended the [Gloo Hackathon](https://gloo.com/ai/hackathon?ref=updates.discipleone.life). That experience became an important turning point for VIA. ## A Conversation That Gave Us Momentum At the Hackathon, I had the opportunity to talk with members of the [YouVersion](https://www.linkedin.com/company/youversion/posts/?feedView=all&ref=updates.discipleone.life) team about what we hoped to build. There was no working app to show them. I could only explain the vision and the need we hoped VIA would address. They listened and encouraged us to go for it. Their encouragement became a launching point for VIA. The Hackathon also helped create a connection with [FaithTech](https://www.linkedin.com/company/faithtechhub/posts/?feedView=all&ref=updates.discipleone.life). Through that relationship, we found an engineer and others who could help turn the vision into working software. Active development began last December. By March, we had a functioning prototype. In June, we began preparing VIA for publication through the Apple App Store and Google Play. On August 15, VIA entered public beta, making it available for anyone to try as we continue testing and improving it. Just over two weeks later, VIA had been downloaded more than 100 times. What an amazing ride these past 11 months have been! Today, people can download VIA, begin a Quiet Time, work on a memory verse, follow a Bible reading plan, and invite someone to become a Disciple Partner. ## The Mission Is Clear VIA began with a desire to help people build consistent, life-giving rhythms with God. That remains central to what we are building. As we worked on the app, the larger mission became clearer. We were not simply building an amazing app to help people grow in their faith. We were building the first expression of a larger mission to help people and churches make disciples. We believe the local church is the primary vehicle for disciple-making. Technology should strengthen the church’s mission, not replace it. VIA gives individuals a Scripture-centered place to reflect, respond, build meaningful spiritual rhythms, and grow alongside others. But VIA is only step one. The larger DiscipleOne vision is to equip churches to support everyday discipleship more intentionally. ## Our Next Goal: 500 Downloads Reaching **500 downloads by September 30** would be an important milestone in building momentum for VIA. As more people use the app and share their experiences, we can learn what helps them build meaningful rhythms with God and what needs improvement.
